Football Program Philosophy
What is the Mission?
The mission of the Ponte Vedra High School football program is to use the game of football to help build boys into men of integrity, empathy, and courage.
What is the Vision?
Our program will be built on the foundation of LEADERSHIP, DISCIPLINE, EFFORT and TEAMWORK.
1. Leadership must be coached just like any other skill.
2. The disciplined life is the gratifying life.
3. Nothing of greatness was built without hard work.
4. Success comes through relationships and a common cause to something greater than us.
Our standard is excellence. Everyone associated with the program should model high character. Coaches, players, boosters, and parents should all seek to do what is RIGHT and what is BEST for the program. We will always strive for “Victory with Honor.”
Summer Program
What is expected of football players during the summer?
Our summer opportunities are strongly encouraged but they are not mandatory. They are offered as opportunities to help our players become better athletes, better football players, and to get a foundation established before official start of practices begin (July 29th). While we believe that those who attend will enter the season with a greater understanding of our football fundamentals and systems, there is no penalty for those unable or unwilling to attend.
Summer Camp/Practice Program: Summer practices feature strength training, speed/agility development, and field work. Start date is Monday, June 3 and goes till Tuesday, July 23. We meet in the parking lot behind the weight room.
During the first week, there will be yard signs that read “Football Camp” with arrows directing newcomers. This program runs Monday- Thursday mornings from 7:30-11:30 AM. The fee for the Summer Camp is $300 and the deadline to sign up is June 1.

Summer Practices: During the summer, the freshmen lift weights and practice separately from the older players. The freshmen usually lift from 7:45-9:00am while the older players are on the field. They switch spots from 9:15-10:30am. Team meetings occur from 10:30-11:30am. All athletes need to wear white shirts and black shorts.

Do I need to register for summer football?
Do I need a physical for summer football?
YES!
All athletes need to have a physical completed on the EL2 form. Physicals are good for one calendar year.
Incoming Freshmen- To be cleared for the practices in May, athletes must give Coach Price a copy of their valid, signed EL2 form. Download EL2 here and be sure to include page 4 completely filled out and signed. If you do not have the correct form completed and signed by the doctor, you will not be cleared for participation. (You will eventually upload this form for Fall Clearance to www.athleticclearance.com starting June 3rd)
Sophomores through Seniors- You will need to register on www.athleticclearance.com. Make sure you choose “SPRING FOOTBALL” as one of your sports. All paperwork is valid for one calendar year, so you may have to update some forms. MAKE SURE PAGE 4 OF THE EL2 FORM IS FILLED OUT COMPLETELY AND SIGNED BY THE ATHLETE, PARENT, AND DOCTOR. You will have to do this process again for Fall Football later this summer.
When do I check out equipment?
Only those cleared for participation will receive equipment so get your clearances done early!
Spring Football (Fall 2024 grades 10th-12th only) - the week of April 22
Fall Football - the week of July 15
Seniors receive equipment first, then juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Specific dates, times and place for equipment pickup will be announced at a later date.
What equipment do I need to purchase?
PVHS provides all required protective equipment with the exception of cleats and girdles.

-
Girdle- Players will need to provide their own girdles.
-
Mouthguards- Mouthguards are provided but some players choose to purchase their own.
-
Cleats- Any brand of cleats is permissible. Major colors should match our team colors (Columbia blue, black, white, and gray)
-
White shirt and black shorts are to be worn at every practice. It doesn’t have to be PV gear but white PV shirts will be included in the Team Store (but will not be delivered in time for Spring practice)
We do not supply auxiliary equipment- Back Flaps, Neck rolls, cowboy collars, gloves, rib protectors, etc.
When is registration for Fall Football? How do I register?
All student-athletes at PVHS are required to register ONLINE.
Registration for Fall Sports will open on/after June 3rd. Every athlete needs a current sports physical, EL2 form, on file (a physical is good for 365 days).
Check out How to register my athlete at Ponte Vedra High School. Registration will be open on/after June 3rd.
Players will NOT be allowed to participate in official fall practice if they have not been properly cleared for participation. Players who are not cleared, but who intend to play football, are still required to attend and observe practice until the player is cleared.
Is there a specific form that I need to use for my Sports Physical Exam?
YES.
The FHSAA and PVHS have a specific sport qualifying physical form that your doctor must complete for participation in all FHSAA sanctioned high school sports. Some doctor offices have these forms on file, but it is strongly advised that you take the proper paperwork with you to your physical exam. If you do not have the correct form completed and signed by the doctor, you will not be cleared for participation.

When do Fall practices start?
All practices for grades 9-12 start on the same day – Monday, July 29.
Please refer to the SCHEDULE on the PV Football Team Snap for the latest information including practice
dates and times. https://go.teamsnap.com/9226238/schedule?mode=calendar
Is it OK for my player to miss practices for vacation?
For Rising 9th Graders, we realize that vacations during football practice may be unavoidable by the time you learn about the high school football schedule. Therefore, we ask that you communicate any vacation conflicts immediately with the coaching staff.
NOTE: While each summer schedule varies, there are roughly two weeks each year when there will be no football activities. The first week of July (Friday, June 28 thru Sunday, July 7) and the week prior to the start of Official Practice (Wednesday, July 24 thru Sunday, July 28).
How are positions and playing time assigned?
The coaching staff will ultimately make the designation for position and playing time assignments. Traditionally, players are given the opportunity to select the position of their choosing the first day or two of practice as coaches evaluate team personnel.
From this point coaches will move players to meet team needs and develop a depth chart according to ability and development within the program’s schemes. Positions and playing time are not topics for discussion via email or meeting in person. Players can always meet with coaches to determine areas of improvement that could lead to an increase in playing time or a change of position, but this will not be a topic discussed between parents and coaches.
A driving force in our program is competition to earn playing time, and players will be encouraged and coached to compete every week.
What is JV-A and JV-B designations for games?
There are no cuts in our football program. There is a spot for every player. Younger players are typically
organized into an “A” team and a “B” team. There will be some movement between the two teams during the season. Both “A” team and the “B” teams play most of their games on Thursdays.
How do we get added to the email distribution list?
Your information will be captured when you register for football through TeamSnap. Coach Price will email you weekly newsletters through TeamSnap.
Please email Ashley Hilley at ashreid125@hotmail.com if you do not receive weekly emails once the season begins.
Where do I get the latest updates and information for Ponte Vedra Football?
We encourage you to visit and check our website at www.pontevedrafootball.com for information and updates.
What is the PV Sharks Booster Club and why are we required to join?
The PV Sharks Booster Club is the booster club that supports all Ponte Vedra High School
sports. The primary function of the PV Sharks Booster Club is to support a broad range of requirements, such as maintenance and capital improvements to playing venues and cross-sport infrastructure projects, and other operating expenses at PV High. All team members are expected to join the PV Sharks Booster Club due to the Club’s vital role in the health of the Ponte Vedra High School Football program. We are asking that each football player join the PV Sharks Booster Club at the $450 Mako level or above and designate “Football” as your sport to cover your fall football player fee. If you want to allocate your money for more than one sport, make sure you allocate $350 to football to cover your player fees.
Starting May 15th you can join the PV Sharks Booster Club for fall by going to their website at www.pvsharksbc.com
What is the athletic department fee?
The athletic department charges a fee of $50 to participate in football. This fee helps supply transportation, medical supplies, and facility maintenance expenses. This fee is paid in early August via Schoolpay.
What safeguards are in place to help protect student-athletes from head injuries?
While head injuries are a possibility in all sports, we continue to strive to provide the safest possible environment for our student-athletes. Each player is provided a specially designed “Guardian Cap” that is worn over the helmet during practices. This has been shown to reduce the impact to helmets by up to 33%.
We follow all concussion protocols as mandated by state and federal rules. This includes removing any player from participation if symptoms of a concussion are present until he is cleared by a doctor to return to play AND completing the FHSAA five-step “return to play” process. When we are in doubt, our staff will err on the side of caution . We have a certified athletic trainer at all of our football events – practices and games. Our program has made a commitment to issue every player in our program (Grades 9-12) a quality varsity-level helmet.
